Founded in January 1985, Quanzhou Museum is located on the north side of West Lake Park at the foot of Qingyuan Mountain in Quanzhou. It is a comprehensive museum built in southern Fujian architectural style, and is the venue of World Multicultural Exhibition Center designated by the UNESCO. This 4A national tourist attraction occupies a site of over 80 mu (5.3 hectares), with a total floor area of over 16,000 square meters. Its permanent exhibitions include “On the Other Side of the Strait – History and Culture of Quanzhou”, “World Southern Fujian Culture Exhibition Center”, and “Southern Fujian Music and Opera Exhibition Hall”. It is a Level-II national museum devoted to heritage conservation, archaeology, artifact research, exhibitions, education and leisure, and is also a national patriotic education base and a national lifelong education site. Quanzhou Museum is the only comprehensive museum in Quanzhou. Its enormous collections in all shapes and sizes fully demonstrate Quanzhou’s historical status as the World Multicultural Exhibition Center and the emporium of the world in Song-Yuan China.
