Shuimei Tubao Complex (Shuangjibao, Shuangxingbao, Shuangyuanbao)

Located in Shuimei Village, 7.5 kilometers southwest of Shaxian District, Sanming City, Fujian Province, Shuimei Tubao Complex consists of three Tubaos, including the Shuangjibao, the Shuangxingbao, and the Shuangyuanbao, with a total area of about 13,400 square meters and a total construction area about 12,337 square meters. The Shuimei Tubao Complex was rated as one of the seventh batch of provincial cultural relic protection sites in November, 2009 and one of the eighth batch of national key cultural relic protection sites on October 16th, 2019.
As a combination of multi-architectural cultures, the Shuimei Tubao Complex not only witnesses the development of a family, but also embodies the characteristics of the continuous development of Tubao architectures in different periods. The Shuimei Tubao Complex is mainly brick-wooden and earth-stone structure with multi-level foundations, which has both residential and defensive functions. The basin where the Shuimei Tubao Complex is located has fertile soil and beautiful surrounding mountains and rivers.The Shuangjibao, the Shuangxingbao, and the Shuangyuanbao are distributed in the shape of Chinese character “品”, forming horns to each other. They were built in the 27th year of Emperor Daoguang’s reign (1847), the seventh year of Emperor Xianfeng’s reign (1857), and the first year of Emperor Tongzhi’s reign (1862) in the Qing Dynasty respectively by the ancestors of the Zhang family in Shuimei Village.
