Located in Yangtou Village, Huainan Town, Yong’an City, Anzhenbao, which is also called Chiguan City, was built in 1885 by the local squire Chi Zhanrui and his son Chi Yunlong to defend against bandits. It took 14 years to build. The building covers an area of about 10,000 square meters, with a floor area of about 6,000 square meters. The building has four halls and two floors with 360 rooms in total. Its scale is so large that it costed 90,000 silver dollars, a massive area of fertile land and lots of grain.

Anzhenbao is a combination of traditional dwelling, military defense, culture and art. The large building constructed in the Qing Dynasty is the best-preserved rammed earth building in China. The building is known as “the treasure of folk dwellings in Fujian”, “the father of Tubaos”, and “the wonderful work of Chinese architectural art”. In June 2001, it was listed as the fifth batch of national key cultural relic protection sites.
