Yanzi Cave Site

Located in Yanzi Mountain, Meihuajing Village, Guyong Town, Jiangle County, Sanming City, Fujian Province, Yanzi Cave Site is a prehistoric settlement site combining wilderness and cave, and was formed about 4,900 to 4,500 years ago. The site consists of two parts which are the site at the top of the mountain and the cave site. The site at the top of the mountain covers an area of about 8,100 square meters.
Two tombs, one ditch, two house sites, more than ten ash pits and pillar holes, as well as more than 1,000 pieces of pottery, stone, jade and bone ware were found. A relatively complete human skeleton was also found. From the cave site, a number of Quaternary mammal fossils, including giant panda, Saber Toothed elephant, buffalo, deer, wild boar, porcupine and leopard, were unearthed. Yanzi Cave Site is of great scientific research value for the study of the member structure, living environment and distribution range of mammal group in Fujian area in the late Pleistocene of Quaternary. It also provides valuable practical materials for the study of the population, settlement form and living mode of ancient human in the mountain area of Northwest Fujian in the Holocene.
