Wanshouyan National Archaeological Park

Wanshouyan Site, located in Yanqian Town, Sanyuan Disreict, Sanming City, Fujian Province, is 27 kilometers away from the urban area. Discovered in 1999, the site is comprised of Lingfeng Cave, Longjing Cave, Chuanfan Cave and other caves formed 200,000 to 30,000 years ago. The site is a typical Paleolithic cave site in southern China as well as the earliest cave site discovered in Fujian Province. As one of the top 100 historical sites in China, the site was successively listed as the “top ten new archaeological discoveries in China” in 2000, and was designated as one of the fifth batch of national key cultural relic protection sites in 2001. With a long history and well-preserved caves and historical environment, Wanshouyan Site is an important site to study the evolution history of early human beings in southeast China.
In 2017, it was listed in the third batch of national parks of archaeological site. The site park which covers an area of 81.5 hectares, is comprised of the exhibition zone, ecological restoration zone, management and service zone and relevant resource exhibition zone. It is a base that combines relics exhibition, education, leisure and research of paleolithic human activities in Southeast China and a publicity base of cultural heritage preservation.
