Aka Tadou Mountain Pagoda, the “Pagoda of Asoka” originating from the Five Dynasties, was rebuilt in the fourth year of Jiayou of the Northern Song Dynasty (1059), with a revamp occurring during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing (1796-1820) of the Qing Dynasty. The pagoda of a solid stone quadrangle, about 11 meters high, has five layers, each of which above the pedestal, plus the waist of Sumeru, feature profile carvings. The first level is carved with eight racing dragons, the second level with plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, the third level with 12 busts, and the fourth level with Buddha statues and flying Garudas on four sides. The eaves of the Pagoda is of flower-leaf shape, with a seven-wheel spire. In the north of the pagoda is inlaid with two memorial inscriptions. The chest-style pagoda for printing Buddhist scriptures, the largest-ever in the province, found its way in 2001 into the fifth batch of national key cultural relic protection sites.
