Kaoting Academy was the place where Zhuxi, a great thinker and educator settled down and lectured here all his life. The Academy had been damaged by strong wind and heavy rain for many years, and the memorial Archway existing here was built by Jiangzhao, a provincial official of Fujian, who was in charge of the affairs in the 10th year during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1531). The four characters (Kaoting Academy ) on the archway were reportedly written by Emperor Song Lizong. In order to inherit and develop Chinese traditional culture, Jianyang District Committee and District Government rebuilt the Kaoting Academy, which consists of Daoyuan Hall, Jicheng Palace, Qingyun Pavilion , Qingsui Pavilion , Zhuzi Memorial Hall and so on. It has functions with publicizing Zhuzi neo-confucianism, holding major sacrificial ceremonies, and carrying out research & learning. We devote ourselves to building it as a national tourist destination of Zhuzi neo-confucianism culture.
