During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Sibao, together with Beijing, Hankou and Huwan in Jiangxi, was called the four major woodblock printing bases in China. Sibao woodblock printing industry originated in the Song Dynasty, developed in the Ming Dynasty, and flourished in the Qing Dynasty. The books printed by it once monopolized the south of the Yangtze River and were sold all over the country and exported to overseas. In 1999, Sibao Township was announced as the first batch of famous historical and cultural townships of Fujian Province. In 2001, Sibao ancient bookstore buildings were announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relic protection sites, with a total of 50 sites, mainly distributed in four villages, namely Zhongnan, Siqiao, Wuge and Tiancha, all of which were successively rated as Chinese traditional villages. Within Sibao, there is one national intangible cultural heritage -- Woodblock printing technology, one provincial intangible cultural heritage -- Sibao tinware making skills and one municipal intangible cultural heritage -- Liancheng Sibao silverware making skills.
