Beigang sits against Junshan Mountain and faces the sea. The bluish stone houses are neatly laid out. Their simplicity and antiquity add to the original ecological landscape like a movie set. Beigang Cultural and Creative Village is a typical example of the remarkable transformation of villages. Five years ago, Beigang was a little-known fishing village with only over 400 households. Most of the young adults had gone to the cities for work, leaving behind many dilapidated stone houses. Today, many cultural and creative groups from across the strait, such as “Singing Stones”, “Banpo Family Inns”, “Stone Gongs and Drums”, “Wind Travels”, and “September Great Hostel”, have descended on the island, have rejuvenated the old stone houses. Thanks to the designers’ renovation and innovation, more than 120 stone houses have not only retained Pingtan’s traditional architectural techniques, but also maintained the original ecological residential features. At the same time, all houses have a different style, becoming characteristic stone hostels for tourists. The arrival of makers from both sides of the strait has further enhanced tourist experience and participation of Beigang Village. With the incredible transformation from scratch, Beigang is no longer just a small fishing village, but a new “business card” for Pingtan tourism.
